What to expect: FAQ

What are your services like?
Our worship services are held in the auditorium and consist of...
  1. Singing: Throughout our service we will participate in congregational singing. We sing a cappella (without instruments) and encourage everyone to lend their voices to praise God together.
  2. Prayer: There will be several prayers interspersed throughout the service. There is no special position for prayer (you don’t have to kneel down), but most individuals bow their heads, close their eyes, and may fold their hands.
  3. The Lord's Supper (Communion): At some point during service, we will pause to commemorate the Lord’s Supper, also called Communion. This is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on Jesus’s death on the cross and is a custom inaugurated by Jesus Himself before His crucifixion (see Matthew 26:26–29). During the Lord’s Supper, trays with small crackers and grape juice will be passed around the auditorium. We invite all who have been baptized to participate; if you are not a baptized believer, simply pass the tray to the person next to you.
  4. Contribution: Usually immediately following the Lord’s Supper we will give an opportunity for members of the congregation to contribute financially. Many members take advantage of automated giving online, but many will also take advantage of the opportunity to place their financial gift into the tray as it is passed around. As a visitor, we request that you fill out a visitor card and place it in the collection tray. Thank you!
  5. Sermon: There will be a biblically-based sermon usually delivered by our preacher, but sometimes by an elder or guest speaker. The sermon may be part of a series or standalone. Either way, we encourage you to study the Bible with us, and if you have any questions from the sermon (or otherwise) the preacher is always happy to talk.
  6. Invitation: It is customary for us to offer an invitation at the end of the sermon. This is simply an opportunity for anyone to address the congregation through the elders (who will be up front to meet those wishing to come forward). For example, a person may express a desire to be baptized or have a prayer request they would like to bring before the congregation.
  7. Elders' Comments: After the invitation, one of our elders will briefly address the congregation and provide any necessary congregational announcements.

What should I wear?
Worship at Angleton Church of Christ is a dress casual environment. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. We have people who wear jeans and others who choose to wear slacks and a tie. The choice is yours. “People look at the outward appearance,” we are reminded, “but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).

Do I need to bring anything?
If you have one, you may want to bring a Bible so you can follow along with the message. A pen can sometimes come in handy for taking notes.

What is available for my kids?
During class time (9:30am Sundays, 7:00pm Wednesdays), we have classes for all ages. After evening service on the first Sunday of each month we have Bible Scouts for our younger kids (2yo - 5th grade). After evening service on the second Sunday of each month we have a youth devo for the older kids (6th - 12th grades). During service, there is a cry room in the back of the auditorium and a nursing room inside the women's restroom for your convenience.

Where do I go for additional questions?
We welcome you to talk with any of our greeters in the church lobby, and they will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have about the church at Angleton. You can also reach the office Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm, at 979-849-6391.
