A Reliable Source

And we have the work of the prophets made certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." ......................... II Peter 1:19-21

My sister and I played a game when we were smaller where we would blindfold the other and try to find an hidden object in the room while the other would give verbal instructions of "Hot" or "Cold" to influence the direction. It didn't take long before Shannon realized that her older brother was not always honest with his directions. I took great joy in leading her in the direction of something she would trip over, or into a wall. She later refused to play this game (go figure) and eventually refused to rely on her older brother for any information.

It is important when you are getting information to know that it is reliable, especially when the information is critical to life. When you cannot be certain, there is always room for doubt and hesitation. Can we be certain about Jesus? Can we be certain about how to know Him? Peter says emphatically, "YES!" Through the Bible we can know with certainty about who Jesus is and how we can know Him. The certainty comes from the source. The source is not men speaking, but God. Because of the source, "you will do well to pay attention to it..."
