GOING HOME

Do you remember the days of old? Do you remember the time when you had been away from home for an extended period of time? Do you remember the time when you were finally homebound?

As the miles pass by, you are drawing ever closer to your destination. Old landmarks begin to appear. Your pulse begins to quicken, and your excitement grows. Shortly, ever so shortly, you will be home! Do you remember the feeling?

The prophet Isaiah spoke of such a journey home — a time of joy and singing occasioned by the glory of the Lord coming to save His people. Everything will be alright then. The desert shall rejoice and blossom. Waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. A highway, which will be called “the Holy Way,” shall be there. The redeemed shall walk there.

“And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10).

“The ransomed of the Lord!” What a soul-stirring thought! It describes exactly the Christian who has been redeemed by the blood of Christ.

Let no man rob you of your joy or your song as you make your way to Zion. In the words of the apostle Paul, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.”
