Going To An Early Grave

Some at Corinth were going to an early grave — not physically, but spiritually. "What," you ask, "does that have to do with me?" The sad truth is that the Corinthian virus, which killed so many in the long ago, as not been eradicated. It is presently a raging epidemic; and either we do not know of the danger, or simply do not care.

Generally, we endeavor to take precautions when it comes to our health. We try to eat the right foods, get sufficient rest, exercise regularly, take vaccinations, and go to the doctor as soon as we sense something is wrong — and that for a body which will only last for some seventy or eighty years.

The soul, on the other has no expiration date stamped on it. It was designed by God to live forever. And that, my friend, is why we ought to be even more concerned about the condition of our souls than our bodies.

One's soul does not have to die. Knowing that, Paul was greatly concerned about what was going on at Corinth. Furthermore, he knew the reason "why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died"
(1 Corinthians 12:30).

It all had to do with the Lord’s Supper and its observance. Christ instituted this Supper so that when I partake of the bread and drink of the cup I will remember Him. A failure to partake of the feast, or to do it in an unworthy manner, will lead to weakness, illness, and the death of my soul.

For my sake, I will be present this Lord’s Day keeping the supper, and examining myself. Will you?
